Low Cost 3D
... Shutter System ...

Once up and running it will be hard to believe there is a piece of glass in front of your monitor. It will look like a window into another world. Some times that world will appear outside of your monitor!

This is one of the best methods of viewing real 3D without spending serious amounts of money. The results will be outstanding. As long as you have the requirements below the only expense will be for the shutter glasses. 3d_monitor

To turn your computer into a 3D system with shutter type glasses you will require either Nvidia's stereo drivers or eDimentional's patented stereo drivers (For non-Nvidia based cards). The non Nvidia drivers by eDimensional will practically work on any graphics board. However they do not work for all games and operate in the interleaved mode during gaming. Both drivers will allow web, image and movie viewing in 3D.

How do LC shutter glasses work?

Requirements - this system will give
full colour rendering on all desktop screens

Desktop monitor
A. CRT monitor - Recommended setup for most glasses. You will have the best 3D experience with a combination of a CRT display and a nVIDIA based graphics board.

or

B. LCD monitor - eDimensional glasses are LCD capable glasses. Note: This is still a new technology! For best results with LCD capable glasses, use desktop screens that have a good pixel response rate. Laptop computers are not currently supported as the signal to the screen can not be intercepted to synchronise the glasses.

Graphics board - Any graphics board, although a nVIDIA board is recommended for optimum performance and ease of use when using CRTs .

Shutter glasses -
The shutter glass system can also be used with data CRT projectors (connected via VGA) for 'holodeck' type display!

3D can now be seen on large plasma/DLP Mitsubishi and Samsung monitors using eDimensional's glasses!

HARDWARE SETUP

1. Power down your PC. GlassesSetUp
2. Disconnect the monitor cable
from your graphics card.
3. Install the dongle into
the graphics card's VGA output.
4. Insert the monitor cable
into the VGA out socket of the dongle.
5a. Insert the glasses connector
into the dongle.
5b. Or, insert the Infra red connector
into the dongle (For wireless glasses)

6. Power up your PC.

SOFTWARE SETUP

Nvidia owners
must make sure that the stereo driver's loaded corresponds to the display drivers. A useful site for a range of drivers is 3D Guru Check them out for lots of drivers and tips. Once on their site click on 'stereo goggles drivers'.

1. Install suitable Nvidia display drivers for your system if necessary.

2. Install the same version nVidia 3D stereo driver. Restart your computer.

3. Open ‘display properties', click on the ‘Settings' tab and click the ‘Advanced button'. Click on the nVidia graphics card ID tab. You should see an extra control panel on the left with the ‘stereo properties' section. Click on ‘Stereo Properties', then check the buttons 'Page Flipped' for the Stereo Type and then 'Enable' for the Stereo Enable mode. Click ‘Apply'. Your system should now be a 3D computer!

The first time 3D is enabled you should see a medical test to ensure that both the system is working and that you can view 3D. In the highly unlikely event you can not see in 3D (This condition is rare) it is suggested you do not use stereo vision. When everything is loaded correctly you will see a small square raised above a large square. Your first glimpse of 3D... NB The drivers will ask you if you saw a raised box. If you type NO the stereo drivers will be disabled. If you think you have set something incorrectly always click YES, even if you can not see a raised box.

No 3D visible indicates an incorrectly set up system.
Symptoms:
A. If you see two 2D images side by side.
B. You see one 2D image, but no flickering. The system usually sets the refresh rate low at this point.
C. You see one 2D image and flickering.

Possible causes:
A & B Drivers installed incorrectly or differing versions installed.
C. Glasses not connected correctly. Check and reconnect.

4. Click on stereo Setup & Test in the left panel and set these up to best accommodate your monitor. Set refresh rates to go as fast as possible.

5. Now to test your set up, click on Launch Test application. You should see the Nvidia test screen in 3D. From now on it's for real!

You are now ready to test games and 3D content. During gaming the glasses should operate automatically. If the 3D interferes with viewing text screen 2D/3D can be toggled with a hot key.
During normal operation of your computer the glasses should be off unless you have switched them on to view web content etc.

For more detailed information please down load the stereo guides from our downloads page or from Nvidia.

Non nVIDIA graphics boards: At the moment eDimensional are the only easy way to get drivers for non Nvidia cards. When purchasing their system the installation CD will determine if your PC requires these or not. Unlike the nVIDIA driver this is a 'wrapper' 3D driver which works in tandem with whatever display driver that is running. Be aware that eDimentional are continually updating this driver to include more compatibility of games and graphics board performance. You can check with their support for the most up to date drivers for your system. You should update your initial installation driver with their update from eDimensional's support page to get the best from your setup. They also have a desktop controller to control the glasses for web and image content. You can also download this utility free from their site.
